Frequently Asked Questions
If you have additional questions for Stellar Energy, feel free to contact us.
What information should I have before I call Stellar Energy on my new project?
It is helpful to have the past 12 months of uitity electrical bills to understand usage. Our sales and engineering team will walk you through the steps and data required to plan and build your solar project.
Does Stellar Energy offer financing options?
Yes, Stellar Energy can offer a wide range of financing options, depending upon the project and the preferences of the client. We offer Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), operating leases, capital leases, and equity based loans. See our page on Solar Project Financing for more details
What does "reserve your rebate" mean?
Every applicant for a solar energy rebate must apply and gain approval for that rebate prior to beginning the project. This is called reserving your rebate so that upon completion of the project you are guaranteed to receive the proper rebate amount.
Do I have to pay the full amount of the project upon completion, then wait for my rebate?
In many cases, Stellar Energy will 'carry your rebate', meaning you only pay for the project cost net of the rebate.
What kinds of rebates and incentives are available to me?
There are federal, state and local incentives. Federal incentives can come in the form of a grant or guaranteed loan if your project meets the specified criteria. Most projects are also eligible for federal tax credits and accelerated depreciation. At the state and local level, incentives in vary by area. Go to the Database of State Incentives for Renewables & Efficiency (DSIRE) to find specifics about your state and locality. Our staff will help you understand the incentives in your area if you cannot make sense of it.
Does Stellar Energy do the actual installation?
As an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction firm, Stellar Energy or a qualified subcontractor will do the installation, based upon a Stellar Energy solar power plant design. Our project managers are always on site and responsible for enforcing the highest quality standards in the industry.
Can I pay Stellar Energy to design a system that I purchase and install myself?
In some cases yes. To discuss further, contact us.
Does Stellar Energy guarantee the performance of the system it designed and installed?
Yes, Stellar Energy guarantees the performance of every installation.
What is a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA)?
Power Purchase Agreements are increasingly popular and allow you to realize the benefits of solar energy with no upfront capital outlay and lock in predicable cost of electricity for 20 to 25 years. See the Solar Financing section to read about all means of financing.
Can government agencies or non-profits still get rebates?
Yes, in most cases, all entities, whether government or private, or not for profit, can take advantage of rebates and many other incentives.
Which is better, a ground mount or roof mount solar installation?
The answer depends upon your specific location. One of our Stellar Energy engineers will be happy to perform a site analysis to determine which is best for you.
How long will my system last?
Most PV modules are guaranteed by the manufacturer to produce no less that 80% of the rated power 25 years after installation. Although a small degradation of the solar cell is expected each year, PV modules will continue to produce power for far longer than the 25 year guarantee.
How much maintenance will be required on my system?
Solar PV modules require virtually no maintenance beyond occasional cleaning. Solid state electronics in the inverters and other hardware also require virtually no maintenance. Our Stellar Energy engineers can provide you with specific maintenance expectations depending upon the equipment specified in your system design. See Operations & Maintenance section for more details.
What happens when I need to replace my roof beneath my solar array?
All solar PV arrays can be dismantled without damaging the modules, and reinstalled after the new roof is in place.
Does a solar array reduce the lifespan of my roof, or make it less waterproof?
In many cases, a solar array can improve the lifespan of a roof simply by reducing the roof's exposure to the harmful rays of the sun. It is unlikely that a solar array will in any way compromise the performance of the roof.
